Welcome Message from Conference Chairs to the BMT 2020 Online Conference

We look forward having you join us virtually!

We cordially invite you to join us for the virtual 54th Annual Conference of the German Society for Biomedical Engineering from September 29th until October 1st, 2020. Physicians, engineers and scientists will present contributions from all areas of biomedical technology and discuss current research results as well as technology and clinical application trends.

For reasons of safety we have decided to organize this year’s BMT conference as an online event. This was not an easy decision. However, it gives us greater planning security and the certainty that the conference will take place in any case. This way the authors, speakers, exhibitors and all guests will get to keep their trusted BMT platform for exchange and networking on current topics again this year.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), Personalized Medicine and Medical Device Regulation (MDR) will be the main conference topics and we will also take up the pandemic theme in context with the BMT society. Furthermore, the topics of the cancelled Active Assisted Living (AAL) Congress are going to be integrated into the BMT Congress. Parallel tracks on all topics of bio-medical technology will be organized closely together with the DGBMT professional committees as to show key technologies, scientific movements and new innovation fields. In addition, we want to strengthen the clinical input with leading physicians accompanying the tracks and giving keynotes. We are particularly grateful for the outstanding support of many leading clinicians of the University Hospital Leipzig still committed to join and cochair sessions and presenting their exciting clinical work as invited speakers. The integration of several clinical societies (e.g. DGU, DGHNO, DGMP, DGEBV, EAMBES) and the medical technology industry will further enrich the program. The promotion of young talents is also of great importance to us and will receive its attention within the framework of the virtual program of the BMT’s YoungNet.

The conference is organized by the German Society for Biomedical Engineering (DGBMT) within VDE and the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery of the Leipzig University’s Faculty of Medicine.

We are looking forward to welcome you online at BMT 2020 and we are hoping the new format will help to promote the important knowledge exchange. More information regarding virtual attendance can be found at:

ICCAS

15th Anniversary of ICCAS

The Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS) is pleased to be co-organizer of this year’s BMT 2020. At the same time, it is also the year of our fifteenth anniversary and the recognition as a scientific institution within the Faculty of Medicine at the Leipzig University.

ICCAS

The Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS) is pleased to be co-organizer of this year’s BMT 2020. At the same time, it is also the year of our fifteenth anniversary and the recognition as a scientific institution within the Faculty of Medicine at the Leipzig University.

Unfortunately, due to the extraordinary situation, the BMT cannot take place in Leipzig and our planned celebrations during the event will have to be cancelled. However, we are very pleased that the BMT can be carried out at all. Moreover, we could win the Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn as conference-opening speaker. In addition, Saxony’s Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow will pay tribute to our fifteen years of operation in a special video message.

Since 2005, ICCAS has been working in close cooperation with the Leipzig University Hospital and other relevant scientific institutions on smart operating room technologies. ICCAS' strength lies in the interaction of computer scientists and engineers with physicians. Our research addresses amongst others the optimization of surgical workflows, personalized medicine, intraoperative multimodal imaging techniques, image-guided focused ultrasound, MR-guided interventions and artificial intelligence and 5G-technologies for medical applications. Over the past 15 years, ICCAS has attracted some 45.8 million euros in external funding and generated over 600 publications. Our institute is an established and certified partner for medical engineering companies. Its research findings facilitate the work of clinical personnel, increase treatment safety and lead to more economical processes in everyday clinical practice. ICCAS supports the medical disciplines in meeting the current challenges of digitization and raises their profile at state, federal and international level. Research findings are transferred via clinical departments, teaching and research institutions in cooperation with numerous partners at national and international level.

A special concern of us is to incorporate the perspective of clinicians more strongly in the scientific work. That is why we have integrated leading clinicians in the BMT-program to cochair the sessions and present their exciting clinical work as invited speakers. We thank all partners and funding institutions involved in our work and are looking forward to welcome you at the first virtual BMT 2020 and hopefully at a later date at ICCAS in Leipzig.
